Here’s a brief interview with Joe aka Vickyhunter @ NamePros. Joe is not a veteran domainer, but he has been pretty successful in the short time that he has been domaining. He currently invests in short and generic keyword .COM domains.
Q: What is your name and what company do you represent? Website?
A: I prefer to remain anonymous right now. I go by “vickyhunter” on domain forums. I do not have a website.
Q: How long have you been domaining or domain investing?
A: I have been domaining part-time for about 3 years.
Q: How many domain names have you sold to date?
A: Over 40
Q: Can you share one story of a successful domain name sale?
A: I bought this three letter .com (VUM.com) back in April 2014 from a NamePros forum member. It was a nice CVC and I paid just under $9K at that time. After a year, I sold it for $19K on Flippa. It was exclusively brokered by Flippa (Ali Zandi). Unfortunately, I can’t share the details of the buyer due privacy reasons.
Q: Do you think there is still opportunity for someone new to the domaining business?
A: Absolutely. There are a lot of opportunities in the domain market. You just have to properly study the market, do your homework and plunge into it.
Q: What is your top advice for a newbie domainer?
A: Right now, the best advice I can give is to invest into liquid .COM domains. .COM is the undisputed king and the short liquid domains like LLL.com, LLLL.com, NNNN.com and NNNNN.com are safe bets and will only appreciate with time.
Q: What is your outlook on the domain industry?
A: I see a lot of potential into investing into short .COM and one/two keyword rich .COM domains in the future. I still feel a lot of names are undervalued. With Chinese and Indian money coming into this, the domain industry is set for explosive growth in future.
