In July 2015 Neustar, Inc. announced the acquisition of Bombora Technologies Pty Ltd (Bombora). Neustar is an industry-leader real-time provider of cloud-based information services. They are dedicated to creating and operating complex data registries, as well as data-driven insights to help their clients make real-time business decisions. Neustar’s acquisition of Bombora was completed for approximately $86.9 million USD.
Bombora, and its subsidiaries, is an Australia-based enterprise. Bombora provides registry services for numerous top-level domains. The list of over 100 top-level domains includes several in the Fortune 500 sector, as well as, .melbourne, .au, and .sydney. Throughout the past two years, Bombora has been able to successfully grow revenue in an ever-changing industry. The company’s revenue growth was estimated to have grown at a compounded annual growth rate of 12 percent, or to $20.6 million USD. Neustar’s acquisition is set to greatly expand their own registry services. Neustar will now operate .biz, .us, .co, and an additional 300 top-level domains. In addition, this acquisition is expected to contribute approximately $8 million dollars USD of revenue and approximately $1.1 million USD of operating income in 2015.
In response to the new acquisition, Lisa Hook, President and CEO of Neustar, had a number of insightful comments to make. In a recent press release she stated, “With this acquisition, Neustar continues to gather momentum as a global leader in launching and operating TLDs. Managing a brand’s digital presence through the creation of new TLDs has become a key component of the CMO’s tool kit, which aligns with the services we offer in real-time authoritative identity. By combining Bombora’s strong team and market presence in Australia with Neustar’s industry leading organization and technical resources, we are positioned to expand our footprint to the Asia-Pacific region.”
Neustar’s acquisition of Bombora comes at an excellent time. Through this acquisition, Neustar will be able to expand its digital footprint, as they strive to continue to provide essential services that CMOs need to more effectively compete in today’s digital marketing environment. Time will tell if Neustar will continue to make additional acquisitions, as they seek to continue to grow their position as an industry leader.
